Instagram auto-reply
Baker answers your Instagram comments and messages for you — by rule or with AI, always in the brand's tone and grounded in the project's knowledge base. This automation does not run ads or boosting.
Prerequisites
- A professional Instagram account (Business or Creator): personal accounts don't grant the required permissions.
- Admin permission to manage integrations in the project.
- A filled-in project knowledge base — it's what gives the replies their quality.
1. Connect Instagram
Go to Settings → Integrations, open the Instagram card (Meta group) and click Connect. Grant every permission — especially manage comments and manage messages, which are required. When you return, the card shows Connected with your @username; if you decline any permission, click Reconnect and authorize everything.
In the Instagram app you also need to allow connected tools to access messages: Settings → Messages (or Privacy → Message controls). The name varies by app version.
2. Open the studio
With the account connected, click Set up auto-reply on the card — or go to Tools → Auto-reply. The studio has six areas: Conversations, Automations, Replies, AI and knowledge, Experience and Results.
3. Build flows
A flow is one rule per situation. In Automations → New flow, set:
- Message source: comment, direct message, story mention or button action.
- How to identify: exact message, text containing, message starting with, or any message — with the words separated by commas.
- Replies: one or more texts; variations avoid repetition.
- Action: send automatically, send for review, hand off to a person, or do not reply.
Every flow has a priority and a status (draft, active, paused, archived). Publish it when it's ready.
4. Specific replies and AI coverage
The decision always follows the same order:
- Specific flow — looks for a configured condition.
- AI coverage — runs only when nothing matches.
- Configured action — send, review, hand off, or stay silent.
Replies holds the texts you registered for known situations, with their variations. In AI and knowledge, turn on Reply to messages not covered by flows and set a policy by topic — approval starts there, not in a global mode. Adjust tone, length and the sources used (project Knowledge Base + uploaded documents), and use Test decision to see the reply and the action without sending anything.
5. Experience and safety
In Experience, choose the active channels (public reply, private message after comment, incoming direct message, story mention), the direct-message shortcuts, the handoff words that silence the automation and pass the conversation to a person, the automation identification text, and the volume protection (safe pacing per account and a pause during viral spikes). Finish with Publish to Instagram.
6. Follow up
- Conversations is the day-to-day operation: approve, edit, reject or reply manually. Sending a manual reply pauses the automation in that conversation.
- Results shows the last 30 days: comments received, answer rate, conversations started, link clicks, how the review queue was resolved, and where each message was routed.
Meta's rules are respected by default: no proactive DMs, one reply per comment, and sending only inside the allowed windows. B4ker uses only the data needed to reply and audit.
